Jonathan Bloxham

English cellist Jonathan Bloxham studied with Thomas Carroll at the Yehudi Menuhin School and Royal College of Music, and then with Louise Hopkins at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. An exceptionally versatile musician, he has won cello competitions incuding the Guilhermina Suggia Gift and the Royal College Cello Prize, recently won the Weiz International Conducting Competition and with The Busch Ensemble is prize-winner of the 2012 Royal Overseas League Competition and Salieri-Zinetti Competition.

Jonathan has given concert performances across the globe that has included solo and chamber appearances at Wigmore Hall, Queen Eizabeth Hall, Purcell Room, Kings Place, The Sage Gateshead and Cadagon Hall. Recent highlights include his German debut at Berlin Philharmonie Hall at which he played Brahms Double Concerto with Tamsin-Waley-Cohen and the CJD Orchestra.

In 2010 he founded The Busch Ensemble, a multi-instrument chamber music group, with violinist Mathieu van Bellen and they have since collaborated with artists such as tenor Ben Johnson and pianist Walter Delahunt. Engagements for the coming season include concerts in Holland, Italy and Estonia, at the Purcell Room and Wigmore Hall in London and appearances at many European festivals.

Jonathan is also Artistic Director of Northern Chords, a chamber music festival based in the North-East of England.
